About

Hello and welcome to my website! Make yourself at home! I hope you enjoy your time here and that you find many useful things here! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿก

My name is Jesse Bollinger. I’m an author of a few published books (one was a #1 New Release!), a computer programmer (aka software developer, software engineer, coder, computer scientist, etc), a logician, a mathematician, a game developer, a researcher, a freethinker, a philosopher (e.g. I like Stoicism and parts of Taoism), a nature lover, a technical writer/editor, and an all-around creative person! My interests are really diverse! ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸŽŠ

I’ve also occasionally experimented with some more artsy things, such as level design, digital sculpting, 3D modeling, texturing, animation, sound design/editing, music composition, visual effects (e.g. shaders and particle systems), image editing, and 2D art. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿง๐Ÿ—บ

I have less experience with the artsy things in most cases though. Also, it often has been months or years since the last time I’ve touched a specific subject. It varies a lot. Basically, my plan is to turn myself into human taffy by stretching myself in essentially every possible direction of human endeavor at once. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคฏ

My biggest problem as a person is probably analysis paralysis and counterproductive perfectionism. Sometimes I care too much about every little detail and that can cause me to freeze up or be a bit slow. ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜…๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅถ

I also fairly often get harassed for being strong-minded and self-respecting enough to speak my thoughts (and live my life) honestly and authentically and for not conforming to groupthink, authoritarianism, gatekeeping, elitism, intimidation, etc. I view this second part more as a problem with other people than with me though. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜›

I believe in being constructive, having a healthy attitude, having a strong spine, acting with a spirit of generosity/kindness/empathy towards both others and oneself, and standing up for what seems right. Directly observed logic and evidence are the only real authorities on anything. Traditions, popularity, norms, social groups, and status symbols have no real authority. I’m a “first principles” kind of person. I strive to give no credit to what toxic people think about me or about others and I do a pretty good job of it too. ๐ŸšงโœŠ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜Ž

Life can occasionally be frustrating (e.g. my personal demon: ๐Ÿ‘ฟANALYSIS PARALYSIS๐Ÿ‘ฟ) but that’s just how it is sometimes. I try to make the best of what life throws at me and to find ways to make the world better than it was before. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿžโš–๐Ÿฉน

Life is too short and too valuable to allow it to be dictated by other people’s weird, capricious, arbitrary, and often very misguided notions of how things should(n’t) be and what kinds of thoughts should(n’t) be allowed. Everything is so much more fun and fulfilling when you live authentically, creatively, and with genuine intellectual honesty! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ญ๐Ÿ˜„

And that’s a big part of what I’m all about(!): Living honestly and authentically and exploring a bunch of different interesting things! Don’t be afraid to break convention (e.g. the emojis and parenthetical expressions on this page) and to express yourself in ways that are unchained by the weight of unjust or arbitrary notions of “how things should be”. See things as they truly seem, through your own eyes. Express yourself earnestly and bravely, all throughout the ups and downs of life! ๐Ÿงฌ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŽญ

Live free and think free!

Live every moment as if you’ve only just now been born, and then ask yourself: how can I make the best of this?

That’s the path to the real finish line of life!

That’s what it means to truly live!
