A while ago, perhaps a year or two ago, I used to have a personal website under this same web domain name, which was active for a few years, but it fell into disuse for a long time. I think the original version of the website first came into existence sometime around 2013 or 2014, shortly after I graduated college, but it has been a while since then so I’m not sure anymore. Eventually though, I decided to cancel and delete that version of the website to save a bit of money because it wasn’t actually being used for anything much at the time.
The old version of my website was used to host my resume, some examples of work I’d done, and various other miscellaneous things. I also had a few blog posts I made talking about a few random thoughts that interested me, mainly related to computer programming and game development and such. Additionally, I had a few miscellaneous tools and documents I made available to the general public that a few people found useful (e.g. a random music note generator for note name memorization practice).
For this new version of the website though, I plan to never delete it. Instead, I intend to permanently use this iteration of the site going forward for all my personal website needs. Last time, it was probably unwise to shut down the old site just to save a small handful of money. Oh well though. Life is a perpetual learning experience. I look forward to having a working personal website again and being able to use it as a platform for my thoughts and endeavors.
I will also probably broaden the range of things the site covers this time round. As for the old content that was previously hosted on the site, I am not sure yet what my plans for that stuff will be. Much of it is fairly old and dates to my college days. Perhaps I will host some of it somewhere on the site in an archive or perhaps not. I’ll have to think about it. Maybe it will be on a case by case basis. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. In the meantime though, I will return to the process of tweaking settings and themes (etc) for the site to start building up a solid foundation for future content.
I plan to not allow any comments, trackbacks, or pingbacks this time. Last time I had my personal website I ended up wasting a lot of time having to moderate people’s comments, even when I had strong filters and anti-spam set up to block the majority of the bot comments. By completely eliminating comments entirely, I will be able to save my time and mental energy for much more worthwhile things. I also don’t care much for dealing with toxicity from some of the more uptight and petty people.
Good living is good prioritization. It would have been better if I had seen that more clearly last time. Perhaps then I wouldn’t have got worn out and thus wouldn’t have deleted the old site. Moderation and dealing with people with malicious or misguided intentions just wastes too much of my time. There are much more productive things for me to do and I value my life too much to bother.
Time is the most valuable thing I own.
Anyway, that’s my intro post. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
